Trip Introduction

The Tiji Festival Trek, as the name suggests is a colorful opportunity to explore the Tiji Festival n Upper mustang. Along with the chance to explore the serenity and mystique of Upper Mustang, the trek offers the perfect opportunity to witness the spectacle of the three-days Tiji Festival in the Lo Manthang.

Come experience once of the most visited festivals in Nepal, with the expert groups of guides and porters of the Asian Alpine Treks and Expedition. The three-day festival is celebrated in front of the King’s Palace in Lo Manthang. This revered festival is celebrated to ward off obstacles and suffering that might befall the mystical region of Mustang. It is also celebrated to bring about hope and peace and protect the people from evil forces.

According to myths, the deity DorjeShunu took rebirth to subdue the evil forces and demons to provide peace and prosperity in the kingdom. The festival depicts the victory of good over evil, like all other festivals. It started being celebrated since the 15th century and has now become a festival of international attention.

The Tiji Festival Trek starts off from Beni and transverses through magnificent monasteries, palaces, rambling forts, flourishing kingdoms of the 15th and 16th centuries as well as religious population to reach Lo Manthang. Colored stripes of white, red and gray, colored flags, monasteries of the Sakayapa sect, are added attractions of the week. The region also offers the chances to view the whitish glow exuded by the snow-capped peaks of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Ranges and the peaks of the Tibetan region. Due to its close proximity and association with Tibet, people here still follow Tibetan Buddhism. For thrill seekers with the interest of viewing the perfect peaks, mystical valleys, dry arid lands and the cultural diversity of people in Upper Mustang, the Tiji Festival Trek is perfect.
